THE DEVELOPMENT OF ANTHROPONYMS DURING HETMANATE IN 17–18TH CENT.

The article deals with the reasons of appearance and development of Cossack nicknames and surnames, the sources and ways of their origin are determined, in other words, an etymological and lexical-derivational analysis of family names, based on the Cossack chronicles and registers are made. It is reported that the typical creative and motivational basics for surnames in Hetmanate age were names, toponyms, social status, position, occupation and profession, names of animals, plants, parts of human body, individual human psycho and physical features, and also their temper and character. The fact that a lot of contemporary proper names took their origin from anthroponyms which were actively used in 17-18th centuries is stressed. The surnames were formed predominately in morphological way with the help of suffixes with patronymic meaning, adjective, diminishing-caressing suffixes and suffixes which denote a person’s occupation.Downloads
