INNOVATIVE KOTSIUBYNSKY’S IDEAS ON THE WAY FROM CLASSICAL REALISM TO IMPRESSIONISM ON THE EARLY PERIOD OF CREATIVITY

Mykhailo Kotsiubynskyi’s creativity attracted the attention of the public and critics in the 90s of the XIXth century. Ukrainian writers were interested in ideas and methods of western artists, images, which was reflected in their quests and aesthetics considerations. Mykhailo Kotsiubynskyi’s works, which are difficult to classify as a particular stylistic direction even from the distance of the century, has become an object of intense interest in Ukrainian literary criticism.
As a realist, Mykhailo Kotsiubynskyi drew attention in his works to the external depiction of the detail, seen in his life. As a naturalistic Impressionist and later as a psychological impressionist, he described the deepest and the most subtle movements of the soul.
Professor Yaroslav Polishchuk defines Kotsiubynskyi’s creativity as an artist of words by the formula "naturalism – Impressionism – Symbolism", which gives an adequate idea of the scope of its individual searches: from imitation of the older generation’s school (I.Nechuy-Levitsky, Panas Mirny) to the adoption of new European artistic movements of the prose of the nineteenth century, and made them the techniques of writing that has been implemented on the border of centuries and it enriched the modernist era.
The aim of the article is to analyze Kotsiubynskyi’s early works, highlight moves his growth as a talented writer of the classic inheritance in search of their own style based on analysis of earlier stories.
The problems were resolved during the work:
- analyze the ideological and artistic content of the stories, language tools;
- explore the Kotsiubynsky’s stylistic innovation in the imagine of the landscape and color;
- to make conclusions about elements of a new style in writing.
