The author analyzes the traditional content of the concept "house" (based on anthropological, ethnological researches of Eliade and Y.-F. Tuan), its dialectical character (based on works by Juriy Lotman and concept of "topoanalysis” introduced by Gaston Bachelard in his "The Poetics of Space”) and its difference from the archetype, which has stable meanings and doesn’t change. The relevance of the article is due to the comparative approach to the analysis of the content of the concept «home» in contemporary Polish and Russian urban prose (based on the novels by Juriy Trifonov and Kazimir Brandys). The aim of the work is to trace the peculiarity of the content of the concept “home” in two Slavic literatures, to reveal common features and differences in the works of Polish and Russian writers.
The author represents a new meanings of the concept “home” in literature of 70’s (its historical changes), such as the temporality, connection with the motive of the road, that appears in the both of the novels. The author focuses also on the relationships of people who live in the same place (families is Trifonov’s novels and quasy-family relationships in “Rondo” by Brandys). The article concludes that historical and social changes have led to change the content of the concept "house" and its traditional connection with the concept “love” and concept “family”. The modern understanding of that concept usually connected mostly with the physical (not sacral) space and its material value, that can show the social position of the home’s owner (in Trifonov’s novels). In Brandys’s novels home changed in a not-material space (literature), home is understood as a freedom of mind and thoughts.
The prospect of further research is to study the understanding of the concept "house" in two linguistic world pictures.
